“Engineering” Safety

Mike Marzano and Jerry Ledbetter will be presenting about the importance of “Engineering” out safety hazards early on in a project’s design…not only to make it safe during construction, but also safe to maintain for years to come. They will lightheartedly share some of their favorite FAILS and pitfalls that make it difficult for agencies to safely access and maintain equipment and facilities, often requiring expensive retrofits or modifications after the project is accepted.

Meet the speakers

Jerry Ledbetter, Safety Officer, CCCSD

Jerry has a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology with Emphasis in Safety Management from CSU, Chico. He passed the Certified Safety Professional examination in 1996 and has 27 years safety experience, the past 19 years in the water and wastewater industry. Jerry is the Safety Officer for the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District and his primary responsibilities include supporting the Engineering Department reviewing designs, safety submittals, and project safety oversight.

Mike Marzano, Environmental Health and Safety Program Manager, USD

Mike has 35 years of experience managing safety for different industries. He is a Certified Safety Manager and has worked in the wastewater industry for 11 years at Union Sanitary District. One of Mike’s responsibilities is to review safety plans for Capital Improvement Projects.
